#AM_Equality: New data shows LGBTQ Latinx people hit hard from COVID-19 economic fallout; HRC PAC launches $2 million GOTV program across 12 states

46 DAYS

In partnership with PSB Insights, HRC releases new data showing Latinx LGBTQ people suffer disproportionate impact from the COVID-19 fallout.

  • Said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid): “As we celebrate Latinx heritage month, we must acknowledge that those living at the intersections of multiple marginalized identities face harsher consequences of the pandemic.”
  • The data show that 40% of Latinx LGBTQ respondents had their work hours reduced due to COVID-19 and 20% of Latinx LGBTQ respondents became unemployed due to COVID-19. Check out the research here.

HRC EQUALITY VOTES PAC LAUNCHES $2 MILLION GOTV PROGRAM ACROSS 12 STATES: The digital ad campaign, comprised of new video and streaming radio ads, focuses on educating voters on early voting, mobilizing them to turn out to vote by November 3rd, and holding Trump, Pence and their endorsed candidates accountable for their extreme anti-LGBTQ positions and botched handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Equality Voters have the power to make the racist, sexist, anti-LGBTQ Trump-Pence ticket a pair of one-term losers,” said HRC Deputy Campaign Director Jonathan Shields (@jonpshields). “We know we must vote like our lives depend on it, because for so many LGBTQ people and those living with the most dire impacts of this pandemic -- that’s true.” More from HRC and Washington Blade.
