#AM_Equality: HRC expands LGBTQ+ Workplace Equality Program to Brazil & Argentina; the impact of the Equality Act for transgender Americans

HRC EXPANDS LGBTQ+ WORKPLACE EQUALITY PROGRAM TO BRAZIL & ARGENTINA: “Over the past five years, our Equidad programs have fostered better and more inclusive workplaces for LGBTQ+ employees in Latin America,” said HRC Director of Workplace Equality Keisha Williams (she/her). “Since the inception of this program, more than 200 major employers in Mexico and Chile have taken steps to ensure their policies and practices address the needs of their LGBTQ+ employees. This success and the work of our incredible partners in Argentina and Brazil, set a clear path for further expansion of our program in the region.” More from HRC.

HRC MOURNS MEL GROVES, BLACK TRANSGENDER MAN KILLED IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI: HRC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mel Groves, a 25-year-old Black transgender man who was fatally shot in Jackson, Mississippi on October 11, 2021. “Mel Groves had an incredibly bright future, but it was stolen from him well before his time. The loss of such a life is a tragedy for our community and for the world,” said HRC Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative Tori Cooper (@MsToriCooper1, she/her). “We must work to create a society where trans people, especially Black trans people, no longer have to live in fear.” More from HRC and New York Daily News.

🧱 LEGO PLEDGES TO REMOVE ‘GENDER BIAS’ FROM ITS PRODUCTS: On Monday, UN’s International Day of The Girl, the Danish toymaker announced plans to remove gender bias from its products, after a study commissioned by the brand found that girls are hindered by “unequal and restrictive” attitudes towards creativity and play.
