#AM_Equality: HRC honors International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia by highlighting impacts of global small grants program
HRC HONORS INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA AND BIPHOBIA (IDAHOBIT) BY HIGHLIGHTING IMPACTS OF GLOBAL SMALL GRANTS PROGRAM: “Every May 17, as we mark International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, we are reminded of the importance of global action to fight against global inequality,” said HRC Interim President Joni Madison (@HRC_President, she/her). “Advocates around the world do incredible work fighting for LGBTQ+ people in their own communities, and HRC is honored to support their work through our Small Grants Program. IDAHOBIT is a reminder that millions of people across the globe experience discrimination for being who they are on a daily basis -- but also that, when we work together, globally, we can fight back and uplift each other.” More from HRC.
INSIDE THE RIGHT-WING MOVEMENT TO BAN TRANS YOUTH FROM SPORTS: As anti-trans sports bans are being passed across the country, LGBTQ+ advocates highlight their cruel and unnecessary nature by emphasizing that state-level bans heavily generalize the circumstances of trans athletes and will inevitably create harm. “The rules can’t be the same for fourth -grade kickball as they are for sixth- grade JV lacrosse as they are high school track,” said HRC State Legislative Director and Senior Counsel Cathryn Oakley (@CthrynOkly, she/her).“The idea that painting them all with one really broad brush is somehow going to ensure fairness is absurd.” More from TIME.
HOW THE LACK OF LGBTQ+ INCLUSION IS COSTING BUSINESSES: A lack of LGBTQ+ inclusivity and culturally competent training in the workplace not only has a negative impact on staff, but also comes at a real financial cost for businesses. According to Michael Bach of CCDI Consulting, navigating work environments where staff cannot be their authentic selves prevents employees from doing their best work. Additionally, time spent in situations where LGBTQ+ employees are forced to educate staff on LGBTQ+ issues in place of proper training can reduce efficiency and therefore replaces time spent on work.
