#AM_Equality: HRC celebrates AANHPI Month with art from Lehuauakea; HRC condemns Louisiana lawmakers for revival of “Don’t Say Gay or Trans” bill

HRC CELEBRATES AANHPI HERITAGE MONTH WITH “NO MĀKOU KE ĀNUENUE” “THE RAINBOW FOR US ALL” BY ARTIST LEHUAUAKEA: More from HRC.

HRC CONDEMNS LOUISIANA LAWMAKERS FOR UNPRECEDENTED REVIVAL OF “DON’T SAY GAY OR TRANS” BILL: “House lawmakers in Louisiana are not only endangering the health and inclusion of LGBTQ+ students and students with LGBTQ+ families, they’re endangering the respect for legislative processes,” said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow (@sarahwarbelow, she/her). “As Representative Sam Jenkins noted, lawmakers are sending the message that they can and will ignore committee decisions for any and all future bills.” More from NBC News, Shreveport Times and HRC.

WHAT THE SCIENCE ON GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE FOR TRANSGENDER KIDS REALLY SHOWS: “The current research suggests that, rather than predicting or preventing who a child might become, it’s better to value them for who they are now -- even at a young age,” said Jason Rafferty, co-author of AAP’s policy statement on gender-affirming care and a pediatrician and psychiatrist at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island. ✨ FRIDAY FEATURE: Oliver Haug (@cohaug, they/them) is a social media editor and podcast producer with Ms. magazine. Their work has appeared in Bitch magazine, them.us, the New York Times’ “The Edit” newsletter, and elsewhere.

  • Read their recommendation: “I’d highly recommend this story from Jude Doyle about the connections between anti-trans extremists and anti-abortion extremists (as well as all their other writing on the topic). I think it's a very pertinent—and dangerous—connection that isn’t being given nearly enough airtime: America’s anti-abortion agenda is also anti-trans.”
  • Learn more about what inspires them: “I’ve been incredibly inspired by the queer and trans youth who I’ve been speaking to in my reporting on opposition to the anti-trans bills. They should not have to be doing the work they're doing—leading walkouts, going to statehouses and talking to lawmakers who won’t even look them in the eye—and yet they continue to show up, day after day. I’m in awe of their bravery.”
