#AM_Equality: TODAY -- Senate Judiciary holding hearing on Equality Act, HRC President Alphonso David to testify

TODAY -- SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HOLDING HEARING ON EQUALITY ACT, HRC PRESIDENT ALPHONSO DAVID TO JOIN PANEL: Set for 10am ET, the hearing will feature Members of Congress, advocates and leaders including David, transgender youth and advocate Stella Keating and Dr. Edith Guffey, Conference Minister of the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference of the United Church of Christ. “This Wednesday will be a historic opportunity to advance equality for all. For the first time in our decades-long fight for equal rights, the Senate will host a hearing on the Equality Act and I welcome this important opportunity to highlight the need for this critical legislation,” said David. “Thank you Chair Durbin for holding this hearing, and inviting me to participate. Together, our movement will make our voices heard and finally ensure LGBTQ people have the legal protections they need and deserve.” More from HRC.


NEW POLL UNDERSCORES THAT MAJORITY OF AMERICANS SUPPORT THE EQUALITY ACT: Conducted by HRC and Hart Research Associates, the poll showed that an overwhelming seven in 10 voters support the Equality Act, spanning across demographic and partisan groups, including across all ages, races, religions, and political parties. “In poll after poll, we see that Americans overwhelmingly believe that LGBTQ people should be able to live free from fear of harassment and discrimination by guaranteeing the same federal anti-discrimination protections that other Americans have enjoyed for decades,” said HRC President Alphonso David.
