#AM_Equality: Vatican will not bless same-sex unions; Deb Haaland confirmed as Interior Secretary


DEB HAALAND CONFIRMED AS SECRETARY OF INTERIOR: “Today we celebrate the historic confirmation of Deb Haaland,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “Deb Haaland has been a committed champion of equality throughout her career in public service, and will no doubt strengthen our nation as Secretary of Interior. HRC MOURNS DIAMOND KYREE SANDERS: HRC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Diamond Kyree Sanders, a 23-year-old Black transgender woman who was shot to death in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 3. Diamond was described by a family member on social media as “beloved.” An obituary shared by her family describes many loving memories. Said Tori Cooper, HRC Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative: “Diamond was loved by her friends and family, and should not have been taken from her community. We will continue to speak out against this violence and to support transgender and non-binary people, and we need everyone to do the same.” More from HRC.

ANTI-ASIAN HATE MUST STOP, AND AS A COMMUNITY WE MUST REMAIN UNITED AND SPEAK OUT: “If we are talking about fighting for justice, equality and liberation, it’s critical and necessary that all of us are a part of the fight,” writes Viet Tran, former HRC Press Secretary. “In the face of anti-Asian racism, violence and discrimination today, I am urgently calling for our communities to stand up together, speak out and remain united against hate.” More from HRC.
