IDAHO HOUSE PASSES DISCRIMINATORY BILL TO CRIMINALIZE GENDER AFFIRMING CARE FOR TRANSGENDER YOUTH: “It is so disappointing that some politicians in Boise have decided to follow Texas and Alabama down the path of imposing felony criminal penalties upon doctors who are simply doing their jobs,” said HRC State Legislative Director and Senior Counsel Cathryn Oakley (she/her). “By making it impossible for doctors to provide care for their patients, transgender youth are denied the age-appropriate, best practice, medically-necessary, gender-affirming care that a new study just found reduces the risk of moderate or severe depression by 60% and suicidality by 73%.” More from HRC and Newsweek.

HRC REBUKES WISCONSIN LAWMAKERS OVER PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION ATTACKING TRANSGENDER STUDENTS: “To subject school officials to lawsuits simply for supporting their students and working to build an inclusive, healthy environment is discriminatory and harmful,” said HRC Wisconsin State Director Wendy Strout (she/her). “Forcing students to endure the wrong name or wrong pronouns, day in and day out, will only serve to further increase the already alarming statistics on depression among LGBTQ+ people in Wisconsin.” More from HRC.

TEXAS YOUTH GENDER CLINIC CLOSED LAST YEAR UNDER POLITICAL PRESSURE: Genecis, the only clinic in Texas to specialize in treating transgender youth, was already under political pressure created by Gov. Abbott’s investigation and formal inquiries from state lawmakers. Now, according to phone conversations of hospital executives, direct outreach from the governor’s office may have led to the clinic’s decision to officially close. More from The New York Times.
