#AM_Equality: In outrage, HRC condemns SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade

HRC OUTRAGED, CONDEMNS SUPREME COURT DECISION TO OVERTURN ROE V. WADE: “When the Supreme Court is willing to throw 50 years of precedent out the window, it proves that we are at an exceedingly dangerous, unprecedented moment. The Court’s majority opinion does not reflect the will of our nation—two thirds of whom support Roe v. Wade—but instead fulfills an extreme, out of step, ideological agenda. And it shows that all of our rights are on the line right now, as state lawmakers will be further emboldened to test the limits of our hard-won civil rights,” said HRC Interim President Joni Madison (@HRC_President, she/her). “Women are under attack, LGBTQ+ people are under attack, BIPOC people are under attack, and we are justifiably outraged. We cannot relent – we must fight back.” More from HRC.

WADE AFFECTS THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY: In a video, HRC Interim President Joni Madison speaks directly to the LGBTQ+ community to explain the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade. In the video, she says “reproductive rights are LGBTQ+ rights. LGBTQ+ people need abortion care, and this will have a devastating, immediate impact on all of us.” More from Associated Press, Advocate Magazine and HRC.

PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY AT ALL-TIME HIGH ON THE ANNIVERSARIES OF LANDMARK SUPREME COURT DECISIONS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO LGBTQ+ EQUALITY: “As we approach these momentous anniversaries, we remember our victories and how far we’ve come in our fight for equality. But we cannot ignore the moment we are in--potentially moments away from one of our most intimately held constitutional freedoms being stripped from us, our right to safe, legal abortion,” said HRC Interim President Joni Madison (@HRC_President, she/her). “If the Supreme Court is willing to abandon 50 years of precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade, none of our hard-won rights are safe.” More from HRC.
