NEW REPORT SPOTLIGHTS NEED FOR MORE LGBTQ-INCLUSIVE LONG-TERM CARE: The 2021 Long-Term Care Equality Index (LEI) from SAGE and the HRC Foundation is a national benchmarking tool that evaluates long-term care communities based on the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ residents and patients. “The aging industry is still fairly conservative,” said Dan Stewart (he/him), HRC Foundation’s Associate Director, Aging Equality Project. “It’s not necessarily that people weren’t welcoming or not wanting to welcome. RISING SHARES OF U.S. ADULTS KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS TRANSGENDER OR GOES BY GENDER-NEUTRAL PRONOUNS: A new Pew Research Center survey found that “about four-in-ten Americans (42%) say they know someone who is transgender, up 5 percentage points since 2017. And about a quarter (26%) say they know someone who prefers that others use gender-neutral pronouns such as “they” instead of “he” or “she” when referring to them, up from 18% in 2018, the last time the question was asked.” More from Pew Research Center.

THESE MOMS JUST BECAME THE FIRST OPENLY LGBTQ COUPLE TO ADOPT IN THE MEXICAN STATE OF JALISCO: Palmira Martínez Gallardo Valdés and Gabriela Flores Castro are the first openly LGBTQ couple to officially adopt a child in the Mexican state of Jalisco. They began the process of formally adopting their child -- 5-year-old Ricardo -- in February of 2021 and were granted approval by a judge in May.
