#AM_Equality: HRC condemns SCOTUS decision for Brnovich v. DNC; HRC President Alphonso David on MSNBC

⚖ HRC PRESIDENT CONDEMNS SUPREME COURT DECISION IN BRNOVICH v. DNC: “Voting is a sacred expression of our shared commitment to a democratic government and a free civil society. However, the demand for access to the ballot continues to be thwarted by state lawmakers who are maintaining a vicious cycle of injustice, one that disproportionately excludes our most vulnerable communities from their constitutional right to vote,” said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid, he/him). “Make no mistake about it: this ruling strikes at the very heart of the Voting Rights Act -- a historic piece of legislation enacted at the height of the Civil Rights Movement to safeguard voting rights. Today’s decision has opened the door for state lawmakers across the country to more easily suppress our right to a free and fair election.” More from HRC, NBC and The New York Times.

GOVERNOR DEWINE SIGNS STATE BUDGET THAT INCLUDES ANTI-LGBTQ MEDICAL REFUSAL LANGUAGE: “Governor DeWine enshrined LGBTQ discrimination into law, threatening the medical well being of more than 380,000 LGBTQ people in Ohio, one of the largest LGBTQ populations anywhere in the country. Because of his decision not to line-item veto the discriminatory language adding a medical refusal provision to the state budget, medical practitioners in Ohio can deny care or coverage for basic, medically-necessary and potentially life-saving care to LGBTQ people simply because of who they are,” said HRC President Alphonso David.
