HRC President Calls for the Immediate Removal of President Donald Trump from Office
HRC PRESIDENT CALLS FOR THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP FROM OFFICE: Read HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid)’s full statement here, and more from 19th News and The Advocate.
“The Human Rights Campaign urgently calls for the immediate removal of President Donald Trump from office. President Trump bears responsibility for Wednesday’s insurrection at the United States Capitol and the attempted coup of our government in which five people died.
“In the months since the free and fair presidential election, President Trump has advanced knowingly false claims to undermine and overturn the election results, a shameful violation of his sworn duty to uphold the Constitution of the United States and an interference with the peaceful transfer of power.
“The United States of America is a nation of laws, built upon the Constitutional promise that no one is beyond accountability — especially those elected to serve the American public. If the Cabinet and Vice President do not immediately invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office, then the U.S. Congress should quickly impeach and convict him to preserve our institutions of government and protect the American people.”
Whether it be through the invocation of the 25th Amendment or through impeachment and conviction, we urgently call for the immediate removal of Donald Trump from office. He bears responsibility for Wednesday's insurrection at the Capitol and attempted coup of our government.— Human Rights Campaign (@HRC) January 7, 2021
HRC PRESIDENT ALPHONSO DAVID FOR THE HILL -- BUTTIGIEG IS BLAZING TRAILS FOR LGBTQ EQUALITY: “If confirmed by the United States Senate, Pete Buttigieg will make history as the first openly LGBTQ person confirmed to a Cabinet position... As Transportation secretary, his voice as a champion for the LGBTQ community in the Cabinet room would undoubtedly help President-elect Joe Biden build back our nation better and more equal than before,” writes David. “For our movement to advance, for our nation to heal, we will need to reckon with white supremacy and all the systems of oppression that have divided us for too long. This past election puts us back on the path towards hope and progress. But the only way we will move forward on that path is by addressing the bedrock injustices in our democracy with the same urgency that we put into winning our democracy back.” More from The Hill.
