#AM_Equality: “A new day has begun”; President Biden issues most substantive LGBTQ executive order in U.S. history

HRC EXTOLS ENTRANCE OF BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION: “A new day has begun in our nation,” said HRC President Alphonso David (@alphonsodavid). “The pro-equality future so many of us fought for for decades is closer than ever before...From his history-making personnel decisions to the policies we expect him to release in his first 100 days, President Biden has made clear he plans on delivering for LGBTQ people and all Americans on Day One. But hard work remains. In the coming months and years, the Human Rights Campaign will continue to hold this President and his administration accountable to their promises...We will continue to work to achieve the vision we know President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris hold in their hearts: a vision where every individual is healthy, loved, protected and has an equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream.” More from Metro Weekly and HRC.

PRESIDENT BIDEN ISSUES MOST SUBSTANTIVE, WIDE-RANGING LGBTQ EXECUTIVE ORDER IN U.S. HISTORY: This executive order implements the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in the consolidated cases Bostock v. Clayton County, Altitude Express v. Zarda and R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes v. EEOC. The order is included in a series of Day One Executive Orders that also includes executive actions launching a “whole-of-government” response to address racial equity, improving response to the COVID-19 pandemic and reducing its economic impact on the vulnerable, and combating climate change. “Today, millions of Americans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their President and their government believe discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is not only intolerable but illegal,” said HRC President Alphonso David. More from Huffington Post, the Advocate, Metro Weekly and HRC.
