HRC TO HOST “THE POWER OF EQUALITY,” ONLINE LGBTQ INAUGURAL EVENT COMMEMORATING HISTORIC ELECTION OF JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS: The event will feature a number of special guests, including actor, singer and activist Billy Porter; actor Matt Bomer; Senators Tammy Baldwin, John Hickenlooper and Jeff Merkley; Representatives Angie Craig, Sharice Davids and Ritchie Torres; and more. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPHELD RULE OF LAW, IMPEACHED DONALD TRUMP A SECOND TIME: HRC calls on the U.S. Senate to vote to convict Trump following the bipartisan 232 to 197 vote in the House to impeach him for inciting insurrection. “With bipartisan support, we applaud the House of Representatives for standing up for our democracy and holding Trump accountable with today’s vote to impeach and remove him from office,” said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid). “The Human Rights Campaign calls on the United States Senate to give this bipartisan rebuke its full consideration and expeditiously vote to convict and remove President Donald Trump from office.” More from HRC.

HRC MOURNS TYIANNA ALEXANDER, BLACK TRANSGENDER WOMAN KILLED IN CHICAGO: Alexander’s death is the first known violent death of a transgender or gender non-conforming person in 2021. Her death is also at least the second violent death of a transgender or gender non-conforming person in Chicago in the last several weeks, after Courtney “Eshay” Key was killed on December 25. Sims, addresses the scope of protections against discrimination for LGBTQ workers under Texas state law. HRC is represented on the brief and in oral argument by Winston & Strawn LLP.
