HRC releases 2020 Municipal Equality Index; Equality champion Mark Kelly sworn in as U.S. Senator
HRC RELEASES ITS 2020 INDEX RATING MUNICIPALITIES ACROSS THE U.S. ON LGBTQ INCLUSION: “The results of this year’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI) show definitive evidence that our local leaders across the nation are standing up for equality,” said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid). “There is no question that the Trump administration made every effort to attack laws aimed to protect LGBTQ people, and our cities have responded with inclusivity and innovative public policy. Adopting the measures outlined in the MEI will not only help cultivate more united and safe communities, but it will foster economic growth by signaling to residents, visitors and outside investors that their region is welcoming to all.” More from HRC.
TRUMP-PENCE ADMIN AGAIN REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE LGBTQ PEOPLE IN WORLD AIDS DAY PROCLAMATION: “Since taking office, the administration has prioritized undermining the rights and well-being of the LGBTQ community, including those living with HIV and AIDS,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “LGBTQ people in the United States and around the world continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS, especially Black and Latinx members of the community. To end the HIV epidemic, we must uplift the voices of those who have been affected and commit to end the stigma that still surrounds HIV.” More from Metro Weekly and the Washington Blade.

HRC received reports of Skylar’s death a few weeks ago and has been investigating. “In November alone, at least four transgender women of color have been killed in this country. This reflects a horrific rate of violence that the transgender and gender non-conforming community, especially Black transgender women, is facing this year,” said HRC Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative Tori Cooper (@MsToriCooper1). “Skylar was just at the beginning of her life, and she did not deserve to have that life cut short.
