#AM_Equality: HRC celebrates announcement that Tori Cooper will serve on Presidential Advisory Council on HIVAIDS

HRC CELEBRATES ANNOUNCEMENT THAT TORI COOPER WILL SERVE ON PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY COUNCIL ON HIV/AIDS: “I could not be more proud to serve on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. We are honored and excited that the Biden-Harris Administration is recognizing the importance of including transgender people, especially Black transgender women, in this life-saving work,” said HRC Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative Tori Cooper (@MsToriCooper1, she/her). “I am eager to advocate on behalf of all transgender and non-binary people, including all trans and non-binary people who are living with HIV. This work has never been more critical, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on PACHA to help bring an end to the HIV epidemic.” More from HRC.

🩺 THIS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WANTS TO GET INDIA’S TRANS POPULATION VACCINATED: Sia Sehgal, a 16-year-old student in Mumbai, is working with the Maharashtra District AIDS Control Society (MDACS), a local advocacy group, to purchase and administer vaccines for trans people. This effort has provided 120 community members with their first dose of the Covidshield vaccine, a locally manufactured version of the AstraZeneca vaccine, for free. More from them.

🥊 OPENLY LGBTQ BOXER NESTHY PETECIO DEDICATES HER OLYMPIC BOXING SILVER TO LGBTQ COMMUNITY: Openly LGBTQ Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio (@neshpetecio) earned a silver medal in Olympic Women’s Featherweight Boxing Tuesday after losing to Japan’s Sena Irie via unanimous decision. RUSSIAN LGBTQ FAMILY FEATURED IN AD FLEES COUNTRY OVER DEATH THREATS: A Russian family was forced to flee their home in Russia after an onslaught of anti-LGBTQ attacks and death threats were directed at them. This comes after the family appeared in a commercial for an organic retailer in Russia and have faced threats in what appears to be a coordinated hate campaign after a nationalist and homophobic group spread the ad on social media.
