#AM_Equality: SCOTUS to hear major case this fall impacting foster care youth; America’s moment -- it’s time to elect Joe Biden

74 DAYS

A MAJOR CASE THIS FALL: This upcoming term, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Fulton v. City of Philadelphia, which could have an enormous impact on the lives of people receiving government funded services, including more than 440,000 children in foster care around the country, by enabling a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people and other marginalized communities using taxpayer funds.

  • 32 corporations have joined HRC’s Supreme Court amicus brief to emphasize the dangers of adopting a rule that would allow social service providers to use government funds to turn away qualified individuals based on the providers’ personal beliefs.
  • Said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid): “No governmental entity should be forced to permit discrimination against loving families, especially at a time when half a million children around the country are in foster care and in need of loving homes.”
  • Discrimination against LGBTQ and non-evangelical foster parents is just wrong. A new House Ways and Means Committee report finds HHS is using federal dollars to put vulnerable children at risk.

AMERICA’S MOMENT: It’s time to elect Joe Biden. Last night Joe met the moment. This country has never failed to turn crisis into opportunity, and we will again with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris leading us.
