Last week I was at the University of Akron (Go, Zips!), to speak at the Annual Meeting of the Gay Community Endowment Fund, a program of the Akron Community Foundation Fund.  Gay Games 9 Executive Director Tom Nobbe gave an update on the Games that will take place August 9-16 in Cleveland and Akron.

Akron is rolling out the rainbow carpet for the Games. The marathon will run through the city and several other events will take place in Rubber City as well.

The 2014 Gay Games are presented by the Cleveland Foundation. HRC is proud to be a leading sponsor this year. The Games are one of the biggest sports and cultural festivals in the world and are open to all adults - regardless of sexual orientation or athletic ability. With more than 33 sports (from darts to triathlon, bowling to softball) and two cultural events (band and chorus) there's something for everyone.

We encourage HRC members and supporters around the country to participate or volunteer.  The Gay Games are open to all adults regardless of sexual orientation or athletic ability. As a benefit to HRC members and supporters, when you register with the code “HRCSOCHI," we'll provide you with a $10 discount off of the general registration fee.  Another $20 of your registration will directly benefit the Russia LGBT Sport Federation.  The Federation will use these funds to provided necessary gear and scholarships to out Russian athletes who are making the trip to Cleveland this August.

If that weren’t incentive enough, the first 1,000 registrants to the Gay Games will also receive a special promotional code to the HRC Action Center & Store, good for 15% of their next purchase.   Our line of Love Conquers Hate shirts are available in multiple languages, including Russian. And 100% of the proceeds from the T-shirt benefits Russian LGBT advocates.
