Legendary New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra has agreed to become an Athlete Ally ambassador, according to the Washington Blade.

Athlete Ally is a campaign aimed at encouraging members of the sports community — athletes, coaches, parents and fans — to respect all people who are involved in sports, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.

Berra has not only become an ambassador for Athlete Ally, but has also embraced LGBT equality at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning, recently approving a new LGBT exhibit.

David Kaplan, executive director of the Berra Museum, told the Washington Blade, “Yogi is a wonderful example making good choices. All of our programs and exhibits are about fairness and respect. And our involvement with Athlete Ally and shedding some light on this cause was just so consistent with our mission.”

Earlier this year, Major League Baseball (MLB) also announced a new partnership with Athlete Ally to help remove homophobia and transphobia from America’s favorite pastime.
