HRC Promotes LGBT Workplace Inclusion in Major Mexican Cities

The HRC Foundation visited three major Mexican cities to conduct a series of business workshops to promote workplace inclusion among Mexican employers.

This week, the HRC Foundation visited three major Mexican cities to conduct a series of business workshops to promote workplace inclusion among Mexican employers. During the week-long visit to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, HRC met with corporate leaders to discuss strategies to advance best practices and policies for LGBT employees and to promote the participation of local businesses in the HRC Equidad MX program — Mexico’s leading survey evaluating LGBT workplace inclusion within major Mexican businesses and multinationals.

The unprecedented positive change driven by HRC Equidad MX has resulted in a growing number of businesses and corporations adopting vital LGBT-inclusive policies and practices to attract and retain the best talent. In the inaugural survey, 32 companies earned top ratings —including PEMEX, one of the largest in the country and Latin America; in 2019, that number jumped to 69.

Last year, the HRC Foundation launched its third annual survey and recognized 120 employers with the HRC Foundation’s designation of “Mejores Lugares para Trabajar LGBT” for earning top ratings — 36 of these employers are based in Mexico. With corporate support and guidance provided by the HRC Equidad MX Business Council, the program is developing strategies to achieve long-lasting impact throughout Mexico.

This year, the pioneering program will focus on expanding its outreach throughout regional markets to engage more Mexican-owned businesses and grow the number of participating companies. Since Equidad MX’s inception in 2016, the enthusiastic response of hundreds of business leaders affirms their genuine commitment to LGBT equality, placing Mexico as one of the leading countries for LGBT workplace inclusion in Latin America.

In partnership with ADIL, Pride Connection Guadalajara and corporate partners including IBM Mexico, Wizeline, Intel, Softtek, Volteo and Experts Environmental Consultants, the business workshops convened more than 20 companies and hundreds of attendees to discuss strategies and pathways to become LGBT-inclusive workplaces.
