HRC announced its endorsement of Greg Stanton for election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District. In addition to the estimated 200,000 LGBTQ voters in Arizona, HRC has identified more than 750,000 “Equality Voters” -- voters who support LGBTQ-inclusive policies. HRC has prioritized investments in Arizona races and has had full-time staff on the ground organizing, registering pro-equality voters, and recruiting volunteers since last year.

“Greg Stanton’s commitment to equality and years of service to the people of Arizona make him the clear choice for voters come November,” said HRC Arizona State Manager Justin Unga. “We’ve been proud to work with him to advance equality in Phoenix over the last six years, and we look forward to working with him in the fight for full federal equality in the United States Congress. HRC is proud to endorse his candidacy to represent Arizona’s 9th Congressional District.”

“My work with the Human Rights Campaign has made Phoenix a more welcoming and competitive city,” said Greg Stanton. “At the federal level, their vigorous civil rights advocacy makes our country stronger.  I'm proud of this endorsement and look forward to partnering with HRC in Congress to work towards full equality for all Americans.”
Since becoming mayor of America’s fifth largest city in 2012, Greg Stanton has championed LGBTQ equality, transforming Phoenix into a city that is fully inclusive and open to all. Under his leadership Phoenix has consistently scored 100 on HRC’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI), the only nationwide rating system assessing LGBTQ inclusion in municipal law and policy in more than 500 cities across the country. Stanton also supports marriage equality and the Equality Act, crucial federal legislation that would finally guarantee comprehensive protections for LGBTQ people under our nation's civil rights laws.
