Today, HRC is proud to join coalition partners to launch Pennsylvania Competes, the bipartisan campaign working to pass the Pennsylvania Fairness Act. The bill would update the state's nondiscrimination laws to explicitly protect LGBT people from discrimination at work, in housing, and in business services.
Pennsylvania’s economy is the sixth largest in the country and the 18th largest in the world – with nearly 6 million Pennsylvanians going to work every day to support themselves and their families.
What most people do not realize is that the Keystone State still does not have a state law that explicitly protects someone from being fired from their job, denied housing or refused service, because of their gender identity or sexual orientation. In fact, Pennsylvania is the only state in the Northeast without an inclusive non-discrimination policy in law.
HRC is working with groups around the state to help make sure that the Pennsylvania Fairness Act passes the General Assembly and makes it to the governor’s desk. Pennsylvania Competes is a coalition of large and small businesses, universities, and grassroots supporters focused on making sure all Pennsylvanians are explicitly protected from discrimination.
