New Mainers United Video: I Want My Two Moms to Get Married
October 31, 2012 by Carolyn Simon, Deputy Director of Digital Media
In the latest ad from Mainers United for Marriage, a young man named Brian Arsenault talks about his hopes for meeting and marrying the woman of his dreams.
But first, he’d like to see his two moms walk down the aisle together.
“When I do meet a girl and fall in love and settle down and get married, I want the relationship between me and my wife to be the same as it is between my moms,” Brian says in the ad.
“I hope that my moms and all other committed couples get the chance to stand up and get married.”
Earlier this year, Brian penned an article for the Portland Press Herald about how much he wanted his moms to have the right to marry.
“Marriage is a big deal. It's the chance for two people who love one another to stand up with all of their family and friends gathered around and make a lasting commitment to one another. It's a chance to share their joy and accept all the responsibilities that go along with being married,” he wrote.
“My moms have been together for a long time, through thick and thin, and they've made it through the good times and the bad times together, as a team. They have shown me and the world what a lasting, loving relationship can look like … And when I think of my own wedding someday, should I be lucky enough to find a girl I want to spend the rest of my life with, I can't imagine two better role models to base a family around than my moms.”
Help make Brian’s wish come true. Vote YES on 1 on November 6.
