Betty Crocker’s “Families Project” Video is the Sweetest Thing You’ll See All Day

Post submitted by Adam Bradley, HRC Communications Intern

Betty Crocker’s video for National Coming Out Day lives up to the brand’s sweet reputation, featuring LGBT individuals and families talking about the importance of family, acceptance, and equality in their lives.

The video may have caught people unfamiliar with Betty Crocker’s Families Project by surprise, but the brand (a division of General Mills) has a longtime dedication to the LGBT community.

When marriage equality took effect in Minnesota this July, Betty Crocker donated life-sized cakes to each of the first three couples to marry at the Minneapolis City Hall, and another giant cake for newlyweds to enjoy at a nearby hotel.

General Mills is a longtime top-scorer on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT employees. For years, General Mills has worked to promote workplace equality and diversity through its LGBT employee network group, Betty’s Family, named for the iconic brand.
