HRC CALLS ON DHS TO ADDRESS ALARMING RATE OF SEXUAL ABUSE FACED BY LGBTQ PEOPLE IN ICE DETENTION: “The dangerous levels of reported sexual abuse that LGBTQ people face while in immigration detention indicate that ICE is failing to adequately prioritize their safety and well-being,” said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy (@david_stacy) in the letter to Secretary Nielsen. “I urge you to address these deficiencies immediately and ensure that all detainees are treated with the respect and dignity all people deserve, no matter who they are or whom they love.” LGBTQ people make up less than one percent of people in immigration detention, but account for a shocking 12 percent of the reported victims of sexual abuse and assault in ICE detention. MUST WATCH MONDAY -- MIKE PENCE JOINED “CONVERSION THERAPY” ADVOCATES AND OTHER ANTI-LGBTQ EXTREMISTS OVER THE WEEKEND: On Saturday, Pence spoke at the so-called Values Voters Summit following an execrable panel featuring Elizabeth Johnston, who has threatened violence against transgender people and promotes the dangerous and abusive practice of conversion therapy on children, and Paul McHugh, a doctor who has slurred and denied the existence of transgender people. Seb Gorka, former advisor to Donald Trump and notable white supremacist, was also featured. Said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy: “Once again, Mike Pence is making clear that he stands with many organizations and leaders who promote hate and fear.
