NEW HUD RULE WOULD UNDERMINE PROTECTIONS FOR TRANSGENDER AND GENDER NON-CONFORMING PEOPLE IN HUD PROGRAMS: As proposed, this regulation equips emergency shelters with a list of ways to turn away members of marginalized communities, especially transgender people. “We’ve seen this time and time again by this administration, of mincing words, and going out of their way to discriminate while saying they’re not,” said HRC Associate Legal Director Robin Maril on how, even after the recent Supreme Court ruling, the Trump administration is trying to get around that ruling by redefining discrimination. “It’s reclassifying what discrimination is. It’s trying to make turning someone away not discrimination.” More from The New York Times.
