Dr. Vincent “Vinnie” Pompei is the Director of the Youth Well-Being Program encompassing the annual Time to THRIVE conference, Project THRIVE, the Youth Ambassador Initiative, and a portfolio of training and educational resources to help youth-serving professionals promote the overall well-being of LGBTQ youth.
Before joining HRC, Vincent was the Project Director for the Center for Excellence in School Counseling and Leadership at San Diego State University and spent over ten years as a classroom teacher and school counselor. He also served as President for the California Association of School Counselors, was on the LGBTQ Issues Advisory Committee for the California Teachers Association, and was a National Cadre Trainer for the National Education Association.
Over the years, Vincent has authored numerous resources, including the LGBTQ section of the American School Counselor Association’s National Model, a guide on creating affirming spaces for LGBTQ students for the American Counseling Association, and most recently, HRC’s California LGBTQ Youth Report.
Vincent's work as an advocate for safe and inclusive schools has been nationally recognized. He was selected by the National Education Association as a Classroom Superhero, named the Advocate Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 and was honored by both Equality California and the California PTA. Vincent holds two Masters Degrees in Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
