As Ohio State Director, Shawn Copeland leads HRC’s advocacy and electoral work in the Buckeye state. In 2018, Shawn oversaw HRC’s efforts in Ohio to increase LGBTQ voter participation and turn out the pro-equality voting bloc. Prior to joining HRC, Shawn worked in a variety of campaign and advocacy leadership roles including Midwest Director for Progressive Turnout Project, State Director for Nextgen Climate, Field Director for Equality Ohio, Campus Organizer for HRC’s 2014 ENDA Campaign, and Community Organizer for North Carolina AIDS Action Network.
Shawn, originally from Southern Ohio and a proud alum of Ohio University, lives in Columbus with their partner. When not working on building LGBTQ political power, they spend their freetime working on open source technology projects.
