Same-sex couples live in every state in the country — and each state has its own organizations working toward gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. To connect with the movement for fairness in your area, contact your state GLBT organizations and elected officials.

As Coloradans face a ballot question this fall that threatens to deny marriage to same-sex couples through the state Constitution and another question that would allow domestic partnerships, HRC’s Regional Field Director Colin O’Dea is working with Coloradans for Fairness and Equality, Equal Rights Colorado, and the Colorado GLBT Center on efforts to defeat the amendment and pass domestic partnerships.

Colorado is also one of the busiest states politically during the 2006 election cycle. Republican Gov. Bill Owens is term limited so the Governor’s race is wide open. There are three hotly contested Congressional races that promise to garner national attention and Democrats must defend their majority in the state legislature, which they won in 2004 for the first time in 40 years.
