Your Community - Montana
Same-sex couples live in every state in the country — and each state has its own organizations working toward gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. To connect with the movement for fairness in your area, contact your state GLBT organizations and elected officials.
With 2004 bringing Democratic-control in the Governor's office and the Montana House and Senate, state leaders are working to help fair-minded and GLBT-friendly legislators win and hold office this year. Working with PrideMontana, the Human Rights Campaign is also working with legislators in Montana on efforts to pass employment non-discrimination protecting GLBT citizens. Want to help? In addition to state races, the U.S. Senate race will be closely watched. Incumbent Republican Senator Conrad Burns faces and uphill battle against former State Senate President Jon Tester. Burns is plagued with ethical problems receiving $150,000 from Jack Abramoff and his clients as well as being seen as an ineffective legislator. This is one of the top senate races in the country.
