Summary: This bill would require that school districts provide medically accurate, comprehensive age-appropriate sex education, information on preventing sexually transmitted diseases. Abstinence would be promoted as the safest and most responsible sexual behavior but would not be taught to the exclusion of other material and instruction on contraceptive and disease reduction measures.
Status: This bill passed the House by a 41-19 vote on March 10, 2009. It is pending before the Senate Education and General Government Committee.
