Jewish Organization Equality Internship
The intern will assist the project manager of the Jewish Organization Equality Index in the development multidimensional program to evaluate the programs, practices and policies of Jewish non-profits. Similar to HRC’s Corporate Equality Index and Healthcare Equality Index, this project will survey approximately 300-500 organizations against a set of criteria for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusive work environments and programs specific to Jewish non-profits and benchmark the results. The project also will explore inclusive employment policies and cultural competency within the organizations regarding the services and programs provided to LGBT clients, members and participants. This is a new project and is grant funded.
Responsibilities:
- Answering or referring e-mail and phone inquiries from Jewish non-profit organizations across the country
- Helping to update agencies’ policies and benefits information in the HRC database
- Researching LGBT-related policies at Jewish non-profit organizations
- Editing and writing sections of resources and reports
- Arranging travel and events for the project manager
- Other administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest in fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans and a desire to learn about Jewish non-profit programs, practices and policies;
- Strong writing and communication skills; a strong inclination towards research is necessary (please submit a 2-5 page writing sample or excerpt with your application);
- Basic proficiency in or willing to work with Lexis/Nexis;
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel; and
- Microsoft PowerPoint and/or web design skills a plus.

- An understanding of the challenges faced by LGBT employees, particularly at those workplaces without inclusive policies;
- An understanding of the intersection of Jewish values, culture and religion and LGBT equality;
- Demonstrated administrative skills that are applicable to entry-level employment.
