HRC Local: Maine

Marriage supporter in Maine

The Human Rights Campaign fights for LGBT equality in Maine alongside state and local groups.

HRC made securing marriage equality in Maine a top priority.

On November 6, 2012 Maine made history affirming by popular vote marriage equality for loving, committed same-sex couples. The law will go into effect on December 29, 2012.

To help win in Maine, HRC:

  • Contributed more than $840,000 to advance marriage equality.
  • Sent nearly 85,000 emails to HRC members and supporters.
  • Recruited several hundred volunteers and sent nearly half a dozen HRC staff to Maine, including critical field and faith-based organizing support for the duration of the campaign.
