Jay Brown

An innovative non-profit leader with more than 20 years of experience, Jay Brown serves as the Chief of Staff for the Human Rights Campaign, America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality and liberation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. In this role, Brown works closely with HRC President Kelley Robinson and the organization’s dedicated staff and volunteer leadership to deliver on HRC’s mission.

Brown has more than two decades of work in LGBTQ+ movement and non-profit management. Most recently, he served as the Senior Vice President of HRC’s Foundation programs -- aiming to ensure equality for LGBTQ+ people at every intersection of their identities and lives. The work he led included advocacy in workplaces, schools and universities, hospitals and healthcare settings. He also oversaw leadership development programming for LGBTQ+ and allied leaders, and a research portfolio that advanced understanding of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities in the United States and around the globe.

A longtime advocate for transgender justice and out transgender man, Jay lives in Maryland with his spouse, Kendra, and their two children. He regularly speaks to large audiences and the media, including interviews with CNN, MSNBC, BBC, NPR, The Washington Post, The Associated Press and The New York Times.
