Sean Kennedy

Sean Kennedy

Sean William Kennedy was punched in the face by Stephen A. Moller as he used anti-gay slurs. The blows caused Kennedy to fall and strike his head on the pavement and he died later in the hospital. Moller, who was 18 at the time, later turned himself in to authorities. Local law enforcement asked that this case be prosecuted as a hate crime, however, South Carolina has no hate crimes law. Moller was originally charged with murder but the charge was reduced to involuntary manslaughter. Stephen Andrew Moller was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He was released from prison one year after his sentencing, and Sean Kennedy’s mother was notified by automated message about the release.
