Human Rights Campaign Unveils Collaboration with Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs Shirt

"I Pay My Taxes, I Want My Rights." T-Shirt

Washington– The Human Rights Campaign - the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization - is unveiling its latest fashion collaboration with openly gay designer and longtime activist Marc Jacobs to raise awareness about unfair taxes.  The only fashion designer to land on Time magazine's 2010 list of the 100 most influential people in the world, Marc Jacobs is using his influence to make a bold statement about Marriage Equality.

“Inequality and discrimination are never fashionable,” said HRC president Joe Solmonese.  “LGBT Americans deserve the same rights as everyone else.  We’re thrilled Marc Jacobs would lend his talents and influence to such an important cause.”

The politically forward t-shirt features the image of a lesbian couple (one with a tattoo of HRC’s equality logo) with their child and the powerful words, "I pay my taxes, I want my RIGHTS!" on the front, and “Marc Jacobs Proudly Supports HRC” on the back.

Because of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, legally married same-sex couples are excluded from over 1,100 federal rights and benefits of marriage – many of them related to taxes.  For example, many employers provide domestic partner health benefits but those benefits are treated as income and taxed, whereas health benefits for an opposite-sex spouse are not.

Constructed of 100% pima cotton and satin garment washed for a super soft hand, this t-shirt is available in unisex sizes S-XXL in antique white.  It is the latest designer collaboration by Marc Jacobs exclusively for HRC. The limited-edition collaboration will be sold exclusively at HRC Stores in Provincetown, MA; San Francisco, CA; Palm Springs, CA; Washington, D.C.; and  100% of net proceeds will go towards HRC’s fight for equality.  Retails at $35

Previous designs have been released by Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Perry Ellis, Kenneth Cole, Alex & Chloe, Christian Siriano, Heatherette, Nike and American Apparel.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBTQ citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
