Patient Non-Discrimination and State Public Accomodation Law

Non-discrimination law in thirteen states and the District of Columbia bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in public accommodations – interpreted to include access to healthcare facilities.

  • Those jurisdictions are: California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

Public accommodations law in an additional eight states ban discrimination based on sexual orientation in public accommodations – interpreted to include access to healthcare facilities.

  • Those jurisdictions are: Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, and Wisconsin.
