Healthcare Equality Index

HRC's Healthcare Equality Index survey will reopen in October 2012. In the meantime, there are many ways to stay engaged!

Why Healthcare Facilities Participate in the HEI:

  • To boost LGBT patient safety and satisfaction
  • To ensure compliance with CMS and Joint Commission requirements, as well as state and local law
  • To provide employees the information needed to give LGBT patients high-quality care
  • To reach out to LGBT healthcare consumers, a long-overlooked group
  • To offer equity and inclusion to LGBT employees
  • To stay abreast of best practices in 21st-century healthcare

About the HEI

The annual Healthcare Equality Index surveys and rates respondents on their policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients and families. It also serves as a unique benchmarking tool for identifying emerging best practices in LGBT patient-centered care. Facilities throughout the nation now look to the HEI for up-to-date assistance in providing equitable, inclusive care to LGBT patients and families.

The Healthcare Equality Index is funded in part by a grant from Pfizer Inc.
