Shoppers can text "SHOP" to 30644 to receive company ratings on-the-go

WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, today announced an innovative method to access the rankings of hundreds of popular American brands published in the 2009 "Buying for Equality" consumer guide, released this week. By texting 'SHOP' to 30644, individuals across the nation can quickly determine which companies support equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans before making important purchase decisions.

"Whether you're browsing the web, picking stocks or shopping in the mall, it's never been so easy to make decisions about what to support in corporate America," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "By purchasing products from businesses supporting LGBT equality, we can work together to move our colleagues, employers and communities toward change."

"By expanding the 'Buying for Equality' guide to mobile subscribers, HRC empowers shoppers to make informed choices before they reach the checkout counter," added Dane Grams, Online Strategy Director for the Human Rights Campaign. "It's just one of the ways that HRC is making it simple for supporters to take action on behalf of LGBT issues anytime and anywhere."

The mobile version of the "Buying for Equality" guide is just one benefit of becoming a member of HRC's Mobile Action Network. By texting the word 'HRC' to 30644 from any cell phone, supporters can join the HRC Mobile Action Network and immediately begin receiving important news and issue alerts.

The "Buying for Equality" guide includes listings from a record 260 companies that received a perfect 100 percent score on our 2009 Corporate Equality Index, an annual report on company policies related to diversity & inclusion training, non-discrimination policies and access to healthcare for LGBT employees and their families.
