WASHINGTON – In response to news that Mike Moroski had been fired from his job as an assistant principal at a Cincinnati, OH Catholic high school for a post in support of marriage equality on his personal blog, Human Rights Campaign (HRC) vice president for communications Fred Sainz released the following statement:
"It's truly unfortunate that standing up for marriage equality has apparently cost Mike Moroski his job. HRC admires his commitment to equality and hope that it continues. While the school that employed Mr. Moroski is run by the Catholic Church and thus has a First Amendment right terminate employees like Mr. Moroski who hold beliefs that differ from church policy, that does not make their decision to do so right, since 59 percent of Catholics support marriage equality."
The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender political organization with members throughout the country. It effectively lobbies Congress, provides campaign support and educates the public to ensure that LGBT Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
