HRC Statement on the Election of Eric Garcetti

by Charles Joughin

WASHINGTON – Today Human Rights Campaign (HRC) president Chad Griffin released the following statement celebrating the election of Eric Garcetti to be the next mayor of Los Angeles:

"In his new role as mayor of Los Angeles, I have no doubt that Eric Garcetti will continue to be a leader for equality, not just for Angelenos but for all Americans. The mayor of Los Angeles is afforded a tremendous soapbox and I'm hopeful that Eric will use it to impart how fundamental equality is to our way of life. In the years that I have called him a friend, and over his years of service on the City Council, he has been nothing but a tireless advocate for fairness and opportunity for all.

“HRC stands ready to work with Mayor-elect Garcetti to improve the lives of all LGBT Angelenos, from the thousands of LGBT youth on the city’s streets due to family rejection, to the rapidly growing LGBT senior population in need of nursing homes ready, willing, and able to take care of their unique needs.”

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
