Washington– After administrators at Sheridan High School, located just south of Little Rock, Arkansas, have refused to include an interview with openly gay student Taylor Ellis in this year’s yearbook, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, has asked the state’s Governor and Education Commissioner to get involved.

The letter to Governor Mike Beebe and Dr. Tom Kimbrell is available at  http://www.hrc.org/files/assets/resources/ARGovletter.pdf.

HRC President Chad Griffin will be in Little Rock tomorrow to hold a press conference with Taylor, his mother and supportive classmates.  Griffin will also have on-hand thousands of petition signatures from around the country asking the school to reverse their decision.

The event will be held at 5 pm CT on the State Capitol steps.  Further details on the event will be released tomorrow morning.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
