Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire Joins HRC’s Americans for Marriage Equality Campaign
Video testimonial released after historic State Senate vote, as House vote nears
Washington – Today the Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization – released a web ad featuring Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire for its Americans for Marriage Equality campaign. In the ad, Gregoire, who recently came out in support of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in her state, says “As an American, a wife and mother, marriage equality is fair, just and right. And it is time.” The video can be viewed online at http://www.hrc.org/MarriageEquality.
“Marriage equality is on its way to Washington state and Governor Gregoire has been an amazing champion of fairness for all families,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “With last night’s Senate vote and next week’s expected House action, Governor Gregoire is a leader in the growing movement for equality.”
This is the twelfth video released by HRC for the Americans campaign. Past videos feature Sen. Al Franken, Michael K. Williams, Aisha Tyler, Dee Rees and Kim Wayans, Scott Fujita, Josh Charles, Katori Hall, John Leguizamo, Julian Bond, Mo’Nique, and Cory Booker.
An average of 53% of the American public supports marriage for same-sex couples, according to a number of nonpartisan polls, including Gallup, CNN, and Washington Post/ABC News.
Americans for Marriage Equality is a public engagement campaign featuring prominent Americans who support committed gay and lesbian couples getting married. The campaign draws from a cadre of supportive professional athletes, film and music celebrities, and political and civic leaders.
