HRC Commends MTV Launch of "LOGO," 24/7 GLBT-Themed Channel
"For 25 years we've said we want our MTV. Now we want our LOGO too," said HRC President Cheryl Jacques.
WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign commended the announcement today by MTV launching LOGO, a 24/7 gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender-themed channel scheduled to air Feb. 17, 2005.
"For 25 years we've said we want our MTV. Now we want our LOGO too," said HRC President Cheryl Jacques. "MTV has been an extraordinary leader in educating a new generation of Americans about equality and fairness. By introducing America to real GLBT people, MTV has helped stamp out discrimination.
"Almost ten years after we saw the first gay prime-time character, thanks to MTV we'll soon have the first gay channel that's on all the time," added Jacques. "Through this new channel, we hope the GLBT community and our allies - especially the younger generation - will listen, learn and then rock their own votes!"
The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender political organization with members throughout the country. It effectively lobbies Congress, provides campaign support and educates the public to ensure that LGBT Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
