One Week Left to Join our 2010 Membership Campaign
January 14, 2010
Next Wednesday marks the anniversary: one full year of President Obama in office. Yet despite grassroots pressure and a fair-minded president, Congress hasn’t moved legislation to make it illegal to discriminate in the workplace and the military. And meanwhile, the right wing is emboldened: last week, New Jersey rejected marriage equality after the National Organization for Marriage spent $600,000 to flood the state with lies about the ‘dangers’ of marriage equality.
We can prevail in 2010 – with a major campaign to get Congress moving and defend our advances – but we need 2,010 HRC supporters to become first-time members by next Wednesday.
This is an incredibly important year. The 2010 elections will bring tough challenges for pro-equality lawmakers – so the next 12 months will be critical for our work in Congress. And 2010 will also bring a series of right-wing attacks on victories we’ve already won. Case in point: the National Organization for Marriage moved its headquarters to Washington, D.C. to focus on ending marriage equality in the nation’s capital.
To get Congress moving and combat the right-wing lies, we’re activating our grassroots network – thousands of local activists trained by HRC who have built rock-solid relationships with their lawmakers. They’re organized and ready to demand substantive action on equality in 2010.
It all depends on you. Your membership gift before this deadline is the greatest weapon against hatred and intolerance.
