The Rise and Fall of the National Organization for Marriage

NOM prez joins radical coalition seeking ‘to hire and fire at will’

November 06, 2013, by Jeremy Hooper

Janet Porter is one of the most extreme voices in the anti-LGBT movement.  You might remember her recent video equating gays with adulterers and alcoholics.  She has decades of saying and doing that sort of thing.

Being so openly animus-driven, it's no surprise to learn that Janet is now coming out against basic workplace protections for LGBT people.  It's also no surprise that she's assembled a team of allies including Mat "marriage equality will lead to civil war" Staver, Diane "Gay-Straight Alliances are more dangerous than smoking clubs" Gramley, Matt "homosexuality is 'one man violently cramming his penis into another man’s lower intestine and calling it love" Barber, Penny "same-sex marriage will mean the destruction of our moral foundation" Nance, or Janice "pro-gay progressives are creating a new hind of Hitler Youth" Crouse.  These are her peeps, all of them just as proud to stand against LGBT human beings as Ms. Porter.

There was, however, a time when NOM president Brian Brown would have shied away from such an effort, since he and his organization were insistent that their cause was simply "pro-marriage" and wasn't anti-anyone.  That time has passed:

I'll have to say, as someone who has for years been saying that NOM is much more anti-LGBT than it lets on, NOM's behavior over the past year has been quite validating. Nowadays, this organization is doing a great job exposing itself.
