The Rise and Fall of the National Organization for Marriage

Joe Solmonese to NOM: Thanks for emphasizing my point about your lying habits!

April 30, 2009

So Miss Maggie Gallagher must think she’s pretty darn clever to put our Joe Solmonese in their newest ad with the National Organization for Marriage, a group that opposes equal rights marriage, ginning up the catfight between Miss California Carrie Prejean and Perez Hilton, eh?

(And to think, I was hoping their next ad would have some even cooler CGI footage of a huge pink Class 5 tornado—or maybe even feature the Giant Stay Puft terrorizing the streets of downtown Des Moines! Oh well….)

Anyhoo…when Politico blogger Ben Smith asked for a response to being included in NOM’s latest grasp at media attention, Mr. Solmonese offered one of his best retorts yet:

The only terrible consequence of marriage equality they’ve demonstrated so far is a gay blogger disagreeing with a beauty queen.

As far as my cameo, I appreciate them emphasizing my point that when debating the merits of this issue they only have lies on which to rely. While we believe in honoring all relationships, their relationship with the truth could use some help.

Now, THAT is a cackle!
