In Iowa Poll, 2+2=3

October 05, 2010,

National Organization for Marriage President Brian Brown sent out a “breaking news” alert last night touting a new Iowa poll commissioned by the Des Moines Register. Brown called the poll “shocking” because it had the race a toss-up. He might be right. “No Iowa Supreme Court justice has lost a seat since the state adopted a merit-selection and retention system in 1962,” the paper pointed out. “The justices have won retention with an average 75 percent support since 1998.” Forty-four percent of likely voters say they will vote \"yes\" to keep all three justices; 40 percent say they will vote to remove all three justices.

Gov. Lynch: ‘Change’ NOM can deceive in

October 05, 2010,

By Jeremy Hooper New Hampshire’s Gov. Lynch made it clear from beginning to end that he personally favored civil unions over marriage equality. But he also made it clear that he respected the legislative process and his role in governing *all* of the people. And he never said he wouldn’t sign a bill. So after extra religious protections were added to the state’s legislatively-approved marriage bill — protections designed to appease people like the National Organization For Marriage and ones that actually dismayed many equality activists, who found them unnecessary — Gov. Lynch signed it into law. There is absolutely no disconnect between what he said and what he did!

Day 8 on the NOM California tour: Spending on lavish hotels and bullying? Check. Drawing crowds? Err

October 05, 2010,

Pretty epic follow-up to the bullying of Anthony -Adam By Arisha Michelle Hatch Between Stop #31 and Stop #32 It’s 9:20 am (the Santa Ana event is scheduled to start at 10), and we just caught up with the Tus Valores organizers and you’ll never guess where: in the lobby of The Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa in Huntington Beach, waiting for the Vota Bus to pick them up.

BREAKING: Vota Tus Valores ally assaults NOM Tour Tracker videographer. Where does the bullying stop

October 05, 2010,

By Adam Bink Our videographer, Anthony Ash, was just assaulted by a man associated with the Vota Tus Valores tour. The Vota Tus Valores bus stopped at 17th & Main in Santa Ana, in front of the James G. Roche law firm, which is where today’s rally location was held (more on the Roche law firm later). Anthony was wearing a press pass, holding a small Flipcam and walking next to the private parking lot towards the Vota Tus Valores Bus when approached by an older Latino man (seen below) who said that our Trackers were on private property.

John Mellencamp: No “Pink Houses” for NOM

October 04, 2010,

It is obvious to all of us that the so-called National Organization for Marriage doesn’t receive permission for use of the music they play at their public rallies. If they had asked permission, they would know that the artists whose works they’re co-opting want nothing to do with NOM and their bigoted anti-equality campaigns. I’m sure you remember the cease and desist letter sent to NOM President Brian Brown in response to the organization’s use of the Peter, Paul & Mary recording of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” at their rally in Albany, NY. Well, John Mellencamp isn’t happy about NOM’s use of his music, either.

Video roundup on messaging: how our side gets it and NOM/Vota Tus Valores doesn’t

October 04, 2010,

By Adam Bink We haven’t showcased a lot of footage aside from photos of equality supporters/Vota Tus Valores protesters on this tour (partly because the crowds have been smaller), but they’ve still been there. I want to take a minute to highlight some folks today.

We appreciate your heart, Maggie. Now stop messing with people’s minds/rights/marriages/shared natio

October 04, 2010,

Like it or not, telling people your sexuality is a “disability” is a contributing factor to the kind of mental state that pushes so many young people off the edge.
