During the next month, we intend to get 250,000 people to oppose the Constitutional amendment. That's right: 250,000. We need new people - but we also need to you to repeat your opposition, even if you have done so dozens of times already. Even if your legislator already opposes the Amendment. Persistence makes a difference. It tells our leaders that we will not stop, no matter what. Click here.

One person CAN make a difference...

It's easy to think your e-mail, your phone call, your efforts don't make much of a difference. They do. Take a look at this e-mail we received this week from someone who's probably a lot like you:

"One person can make a huge difference, I did!!!!!!

You see everyone, one person can make a big difference in the fight for what you believe in. 10 Months ago I met my congressmen Menendez for the first time in his NJ office and told him about a Bill in Congress for the 3 years in a row called Permanente Partners Immigration Act. It would give rights to gay people who fall in love with people from other countries for immigration.(15 countries have now). Currently we have no way to sponsor our loved one so we are forced to live apart or in fear. This is just one of the many in justices gay people face today, even while we pay full taxes and contribute fully to society.

When I met with my Congressmen he was UNAWARE of the BILL even though it was in its 3rd year on the floor at Congress and his staff were told about it for years by Human Rights Campaign and Immigration Equality. When I told him about it and explained how it hurt my family and myself, how my partner could not see his father after he was diagnosed with Cancer or how he could not go visit his newborn nephew, the Congressmen was very moved and understood the unfair practice. It took 10 months of writing letters and reminding him of this issue and on June 15th he co-sponsored the bill in Congress. The Senate just introduced a bill and is working on the issue also. Both my Senators are onboard.

So you can make a difference for what ever you believe in. Just be heard, send emails, letters..."

If you haven't contacted your Senators about opposing the FMA yet, now is the time.

We must win this vote and win it big. Members of Congress tell us they're hearing from the other side by a 10 to 1 margin right now. That's why your action now is so important.

More ways to help:

  • Congress will be in recess next week, June 28-July 5. During this time, it's important that as many people as possible make personal contact with their Senators, whether it be by making a personal appointment or attending an event where your Senator will be. All you need to do is to call your Senators' offices and ask to make an appointment or get their schedule. Click here to find the phone numbers to get started.

  • Write a letter to your local newspaper. It only takes a few minutes. We've created a page on our site with everything you need to know. Click here to write your letter.

  • During the next few weeks, we'll be doing all that we can to impact the FMA vote, including buying TV and newspaper advertisements, running intensive organizing efforts, educating key Senators, and more. Your donations have never been more critical. We thank you in advance for your generosity during this crucial time. Click here to make your special gift towards this historic vote today.

THANK YOU again for all you do. We're glad to have you with us during this fight. If you have any questions or ideas, please drop us a line at: field@hrc.org
