At the Intersection: Fight for the Life of My Self-Esteem

You know, when I go to West Hollywood, as an African American male, I feel like in just passing through the doors of the clubs and bars – my status is demoted. Sure, these are largely sexual arenas – singles clubs. But I would still like to just pop out – maybe on a Sunday afternoon for a drink with my gay community. While there, though, it is a fight for the life of my self-esteem. While in a black church or black neighborhood my six foot six frame and shaved head is adored, here, I'm invisible by most – objectified by a few – and humanized by hardly anyone.

Domestic Partner Benefits

In growing numbers, both public and private employers across the country recognize domestic partner benefits as an inexpensive option to attract and retain the best employees and to promote fairness and equality in the workplace.

The Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act

This bill would provide domestic partnership benefits to all federal civilian employees on the same basis as spousal benefits. These benefits, available for both same- and opposite-sex domestic partners of federal employees, would include participation in applicable retirement programs, compensation for work injuries and life and health insurance benefits.

A Gay Christian

Wow, where to start? Let's start off by saying that ever since my sexual stirrings (at 7yrs old) I knew I was different. I was attracted to boys. I thought nothing of it; it was just natural to me. I did not completely understand sexuality at age 7 but I knew that it was supposed to be a boy and a girl. So I was kind of confused until I grew older. I was brought up a Catholic and I was taught that being gay was a "sin".
