Protects gay and lesbian students? No
While Alaska does not have a safe schools law per se, the Alaska Code of Ethics and Teaching Standards lists sexual orientation as a protected category under which an educator "may not harass, discriminate against, or grant a discriminatory advantage to a student." The code further specifies that an educator "shall make reasonable effort to assure that a student is protected from harassment or discrimination" on the basis of sexual orientation and that an educator "and may not engage in a course of conduct that would encourage a reasonable student to develop a prejudice on these grounds." 20 Alaska Admin. Code 10.020 (2002).
